Siddaramaiah Rejects BJP Claims, Says Karnataka's Economy Stable

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied the claims made by opposition leaders, especially from the BJP, saying the state is not facing any financial problems. He blamed the previous BJP government for causing mismanagement, which has led to big unpaid bills. Siddaramaiah said that the BJP had left the state with Rs 2.7 lakh crore in unpaid bills and ignored the needs of important departments like public works, water resources, and housing.

Opposition leaders like BJP President BY Vijayendra and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai have been saying that Karnataka is almost bankrupt. They also said the state's financial system is falling apart. Siddaramaiah, however, pointed out that these leaders are now acting like financial experts, even though it was during their time in power that the state’s economy got into trouble.

Siddaramaiah explained that his government is doing everything it can to fix the economy, which was in chaos after the BJP left power. He also mentioned that the BJP government had given approval for projects worth Rs 1.66 lakh crore without planning properly for the money to pay for them.

The Chief Minister also said the central government, led by the BJP, has been holding back money that Karnataka should have received. He said that the state should have gotten Rs 73,000 crore but only received Rs 51,000 crore due to changes in the tax system. He also claimed that the central government stopped giving money to Karnataka to cover losses from GST, which has caused the state to lose Rs 18,000-20,000 crore every year.

Even with all these challenges, Siddaramaiah assured that the state’s economy is stable. He mentioned that over the past two years, the state’s budget grew by 18.3%, while during the BJP's rule, it only grew by 5%. He also said that his government is spending Rs 90,000 crore every year on direct benefit programs and subsidies to help people.

Siddaramaiah criticized the central government for its rising debts. He said that the central government's debt has grown from Rs 53 lakh crore in 2013 to Rs 200 lakh crore by 2026, which has also affected the finances of the states. He said that Karnataka is doing better than many other states because it is spending a larger share of its budget on building the state’s infrastructure, such as roads and schools.

He also called on the opposition to stop spreading lies and work together with his government to improve the state and help the people.
