Several Workers Trapped After Tunnel Collapse In Telangana

A big accident happened in Telangana on Saturday when a part of a tunnel that was being built fell down. This tunnel is behind the Srisailam dam in Nagarkurnool district. At least eight workers are stuck inside. The workers had gone inside to fix a water leak, but suddenly, a part of the tunnel broke and fell. Many workers were able to escape, but eight of them could not come out in time. A rescue team has started working to save them.

Officials said that the tunnel broke for more than 10 meters, and mud has spread around 200 meters. The accident happened at the 14th km point of the tunnel. The tunnel had just opened four days ago after some work was completed.

The District Collector, B Santosh, said that they have not been able to talk to the workers inside because the communication system is not working. The air chamber and the conveyor belt inside the tunnel have also fallen, which has made the rescue work more difficult.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said he was shocked by the accident. He shared a message online saying that many people were hurt, but he did not say how many. He quickly told the District Collector, police officers, fire department, and other officials to go to the place and help with the rescue.

Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar and other officials have taken a special helicopter to reach the accident site. Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has also asked for full details of what happened. He told the officers to save the workers as fast as possible. In a social media post, he said that those who are injured must get good medical treatment.

Rescue workers are trying their best to clear the fallen mud and stones. Big machines are being used to remove the debris. Families of the stuck workers are waiting, hoping they will be saved soon. The situation is still serious, and everyone is praying for their safety.
