Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in New Delhi on February 27 and 28. This will be the first time that all members of the European Commission are visiting India together.
This will be the third visit of President von der Leyen to India. She came to India in April 2022 for a meeting and again in September 2023 for the G20 summit. The Prime Minister and the President have also met many times during other international meetings.
India and the European Union (EU) have been working together since 2004. Now, both sides are starting the third decade of their relationship. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that this visit will help India and the EU cooperate in many important areas.
During her visit, Prime Minister Modi and President von der Leyen will discuss several key topics. They will hold the second meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council. The European commissioners will also have meetings with their Indian counterparts. They will talk about things like trade, investment, climate change, technology, digital growth, and farming.
India and the EU both believe in democracy and following global rules. They work together in many areas such as business, technology, and security. This visit is one of the first major meetings since the European Commission started in December 2024, after the European elections in June 2024.
This visit is expected to help India and the EU grow their relationship even more. Both sides hope to work together for a better and stronger future.
