Sridhar Vembu, the founder of Zoho Corp, has decided to step down as the CEO of the software company. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Vembu shared that he would now focus on research and development (R&D) as Zoho's new Chief Scientist.
He mentioned, "A new chapter begins today. With the many challenges and opportunities ahead, especially with the major advancements in AI, I should dedicate my time to R&D efforts, while also working on my mission to develop rural areas."
Vembu, who is known for his strong interest in sustainable development and the rural economy, said he would now be in charge of the company’s R&D projects. These initiatives will play a key role in Zoho’s future growth and direction.
He also announced that Shailesh Kumar Davey, one of Zoho’s co-founders, will become the new CEO of the company. Vembu expressed his excitement about his new role, saying, “The future of Zoho depends on how well we handle R&D, and I am looking forward to this new challenge with energy. I am also happy to return to hands-on technical work."
In his new role, Vembu will focus on guiding the company’s deep R&D efforts. Along with that, other changes in leadership include Tony Thomas, who will lead Zoho US; Rajesh Ganesan, who will manage the ManageEngine division; and Mani Vembu, who will oversee the Zoho.com division.
Sridhar Vembu is well known for his work in the tech industry and his focus on rural development. He founded Zoho, a company that makes cloud-based software for businesses. Vembu, who holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton University, has made Zoho one of India’s most successful private companies.
Apart from his business success, Vembu has created an in-house university called Zoho University. This university helps students fresh out of school to learn skills for the tech industry, and many of these students are later hired by Zoho. Vembu also supports a school for rural children in Tamil Nadu, helping improve education in rural areas.
According to Forbes, Sridhar Vembu's net worth is an impressive $5.8 billion.
With these changes, Zoho aims to continue growing and adapting to the ever-changing tech world, with a special focus on R&D and sustainable growth in rural areas.
