Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently shared that he is a “product of the bond” between India and the United States. He made this statement during a special Republic Day celebration in Seattle, where Indian-American leaders, top government officials, and lawmakers came together to honor India’s 76th Republic Day.
The event took place at the Bell Harbour Conference Centre and was hosted by the Consulate General of India in Seattle. Over 500 people from the Indian-American community attended the event. The Governor of Washington State, Bob Ferguson, and Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella were the main guests of honor at the gathering. In a first-ever move, several US Congress members also attended the celebrations.
During the event, Nadella spoke about how he is a result of the strong relationship between India and the United States. He also praised the leadership of both countries for their efforts to use technology to improve education, healthcare, public service, and business efficiency. Nadella emphasized how both countries are working to leverage technology to improve the lives of their citizens.
Governor Bob Ferguson acknowledged the great contributions of the Indian community, not just for India but for the entire world. He also expressed his excitement about strengthening the relationship between Washington State and the Consulate General of India in Seattle.
To mark the importance of the day, the Washington State Senate passed a special resolution welcoming India’s Republic Day and recognizing the strong friendship between India and the US. This resolution was supported by State Senators Manka Dhingra and Vandana Slatter.
The Republic Day reception also saw the participation of several distinguished leaders, including members of the US Congress like Rep. Suzan DelBene, Rep. Adam Smith, Rep. Michael Baumgartner, and Rep. Kim Schrier. They all praised India’s accomplishments, including being the world’s largest democracy. Washington State’s Attorney General, Nick Brown, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, and several other lawmakers from Washington also attended the event.
The celebration featured various cultural exhibits to showcase India’s diversity. One highlight was the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) exhibition, which displayed unique products from different states and territories of India. There was also a photo exhibit titled "India through Tim's Eyes," which displayed beautiful images of India’s famous tourist spots, captured by photographer Tim Durkan during his visit to India in September of the previous year.
In addition to these exhibits, a special dance performance called "Natyam" was presented. This dance showcased different dance forms from India and was warmly received by the audience.
In a special gesture, several famous landmarks in Seattle, including the Seattle Great Wheel, Seattle Convention Center, and Columbia Center, were lit up in the colors of India’s national flag to mark the occasion.
Earlier this month, Satya Nadella had met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. After the meeting, Nadella thanked the Prime Minister for his leadership and expressed his excitement to continue working together to make India a leader in artificial intelligence (AI). Prime Minister Modi also expressed his appreciation for Microsoft’s plans to expand its operations in India and the company’s efforts in the fields of technology, innovation, and AI.
This event highlighted the strong friendship between India and the US, with a focus on technology, culture, and the positive contributions made by the Indian-American community to both countries.
