Andhra Man Kills Sister for Rs 1 Crore Insurance, Arrested for Murder

A 30-year-old real estate businessman from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly killing his younger sister to fraudulently claim an insurance payout worth Rs 1 crore. The accused, identified as Malapati Ashok Kumar, reportedly staged the murder to look like a car accident. The police confirmed on Tuesday that the crime took place on February 2, 2024, near a petrol station in Podili.

Kumar's younger sister, who was divorced and had no children, became a target in his desperate scheme to overcome financial troubles. He had been struggling with mounting debts and reportedly came up with a plan to insure his sister’s life with multiple policies. Once the insurance was in place, he allegedly murdered her to collect the hefty payouts.

On the day of the tragic incident, Kumar convinced his sister to join him on a trip to a hospital in Ongole. After completing their visit, the siblings were on their way back when Kumar allegedly carried out his plan. He reportedly gave his sister sleeping pills to make her unconscious and later smothered her to death.

In a further attempt to cover up the crime, Kumar tried to make it look like a road accident. However, police investigations quickly uncovered signs that pointed to foul play. Detectives revealed that Kumar had carefully planned every detail, ensuring the insurance policies were finalized before committing the crime.

Authorities arrested Kumar and charged him under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 120(B) for criminal conspiracy, Section 302 for murder, and Section 201 for destroying evidence. Police are also investigating whether he had any accomplices or had committed similar crimes in the past.

The case has shocked the local community, highlighting the extent to which financial pressures can drive people to commit such horrifying crimes. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will continue to ensure justice for the victim.
