The University of Surrey from the UK has announced exciting news: it will open an international campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, India. This campus will be set up in partnership with GUS Global Services (GGS), a well-known transnational education group with a lot of experience in setting up campuses around the world. The announcement was made at the QS India Summit 2025 in Goa, during a special event where key figures from both the University of Surrey and GGS spoke about the collaboration.
Professor GQ Max Lu, the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey, along with Dr. Sharad Mehra, the Regional CEO of GGS for Asia and Australia, were part of this important announcement. According to an official statement from the university, the project is in the final stages of planning. However, it is still waiting for approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) in Gujarat. The approval must come under the International Branch Campus Regulations. If approved, this campus will make GIFT City a major hub for international higher education in India.
On January 31, there will be an important meeting in GIFT City. Professor Lu, along with GGS representatives, will meet with IFSCA officials to discuss the progress of the project and move things forward.
The University of Surrey’s new campus will focus on several key areas of study, including business, international finance, computer science, and cyber-security. These areas of study match the vision of GIFT City, which is developing as a financial and educational center. GGS India will play a vital role in helping set up the campus. They will provide support with strategic advice, student enrolment, and campus operations, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. The university will take the lead in teaching and academic work, with all lessons and research being managed by Surrey’s staff.
The University of Surrey and GGS are also working closely with the British High Commission and the British Council in India to ensure the project moves ahead successfully.
If all goes as planned, this new campus will be an exciting opportunity for students in India to receive a world-class education without having to go abroad.
