Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the success of Coldplay's concerts in India, emphasizing the growing potential for live concerts in the country. Speaking at the 'Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025' in Bhubaneswar, Modi praised the “fabulous pictures” of the British rock band's shows held in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. He highlighted that India has great potential to become a major hub for live performances, with big artists from all over the world now eager to perform here.
Modi expressed his belief that the concert economy in India is on the rise, adding that the country's rich history of music, dance, and storytelling makes it an ideal location for global artists. He also mentioned that the trend of live concerts has been growing in India over the past decade, with more and more people enjoying such events.
The PM encouraged state governments and the private sector to invest in improving infrastructure and skills to support this expanding sector. He suggested that the growth of the concert economy could bring more opportunities for India, benefiting both the entertainment industry and the local economy.
Coldplay's tour in India, part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, was a major hit, with all five of their concerts sold out. The band held three shows in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai earlier this month, and then performed in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The concerts were widely praised for their flawless organization and the energetic crowds that attended.
During the Ahmedabad concert, Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin won hearts by speaking in Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati, interacting with the audience in a fun and friendly way. He also gave shoutouts to famous personalities like Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, who were both present at the show.
Since the concert coincided with Republic Day, Coldplay added a patriotic touch to their performance. Martin played soulful piano renditions of "Vande Mataram" and "Maa Tujhe Salaam," which resonated deeply with the audience. Several celebrities, including actors Kartik Aaryan, Suhana Khan, and Vijay Varma, as well as former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, were spotted at the concert, enjoying the music with the crowd.
Coldplay had previously performed in India in 2016 at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. The band, known for their hits like “Fix You” and “Yellow,” is made up of Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion, and their manager Phil Harvey. The band's recent tour was a testament to India's growing appeal as a concert destination, as it attracted thousands of fans and generated a lot of excitement across the country.
