Ahead of Republic Day, the Indian Army announced two exciting new additions to this year's parade. These include the introduction of battlefield surveillance systems and a special DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) tableau showcasing the "Pralay" short-range ballistic missiles.
During a press conference, Major General Sumit Mehta shared that these two features would make their debut this year. The battlefield surveillance systems will provide a glimpse into modern defense technology, while the DRDO tableau will highlight the "Pralay" missile system, which is a key part of India’s defense strategy. This will be the fourth time that the President of Indonesia will be attending as the chief guest for Republic Day.
Major General Mehta also mentioned that about 5,000 cultural artists will perform across the ceremonial path during the parade to ensure everyone in the audience can see the performances. In previous years, the performers were mostly visible to those near the presidential box. This year, the cultural performances will be spread throughout the ceremonial path, giving everyone a better view.
Looking ahead to the Beating Retreat ceremony on January 29, Major General Mehta announced that the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) bands will perform at Vijay Chowk at 5:15 PM. Around 29 different tunes will be played, with bands marching and forming impressive patterns.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will also be a key part of the 76th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. DRDO’s tableau, with the theme “Raksha Kavach – Multi-layer Protection Against Multi-domain Threats,” will feature some of its cutting-edge innovations. These will include the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile, Airborne Early Warning & Control System, 155mm/52 Cal Advanced Towed Artillery Gun, Drone Detection and Destruction System, Satellite-Based Surveillance System, Medium Power Radar (Arudhra), Advanced Light Weight Torpedo, Electronic Warfare System (Dharashakti), Laser-Based Directed Energy Weapon, Very Short Range Air Defence System, Indigenous Unmanned Aerial System, Software Defined Radio for Land Forces, Secure Satellite Phone, and UGRAM Assault Rifle.
This year’s Republic Day Parade will be a grand celebration of India’s culture, military strength, and achievements. The focus will also be on the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution and the idea of "Jan Bhagidari," which means the active participation of citizens in national progress. It is set to be a memorable event for everyone to enjoy and appreciate India’s rich diversity and powerful defense capabilities.
