WPL 2025: GG vs RCB Sets Record for Highest Ever Total in Tournament

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 started with a thrilling match between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The game was played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, on Friday, February 14. It was full of excitement, big shots, and new records, making it a great start to the tournament.

After losing the toss, Gujarat Giants batted first. Their opening batter Beth Mooney played well and scored 56 runs from 42 balls. But the best knock came from their captain, Ashleigh Gardner, who smashed 79 runs in just 37 balls. She hit the ball to all parts of the ground. Because of their strong batting, Gujarat Giants put up a big total of 201 runs in 20 overs.
RCB had a tough start while chasing 202 runs as both their openers got out early. But Ellyse Perry played an important knock, scoring 57 runs from 34 balls, and helped the team recover. The real match-winner was Richa Ghosh, who played a blazing innings of 64 runs from just 27 balls. Her powerful hitting helped **RCB chase the target successfully, making it the biggest run chase in WPL history.

This match also created a new record for the highest total runs in one WPL game. Both teams together scored 403 runs, which is the most in WPL history. The last record was 391 runs, also in a match between Gujarat Giants and RCB in 2023. The third-highest total was 386 runs, in a match between RCB and Delhi Capitals in the first WPL season.

With this huge win, RCB has started WPL 2025 in a strong way. Their captain, Smriti Mandhana, will hope the team keeps playing well in the next matches. The first game has already given fans a lot of joy, and the tournament looks set for many more exciting games ahead.
