Mahakumbh, one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world, is about to end soon. Millions of people are coming to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to take a holy dip in the sacred Triveni Sangam. But some wrong news about the event was spread on social media.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Vaibhav Krishna, said that 13 cases have been filed against 140 social media accounts for spreading false news about Mahakumbh. He also said that the police are fully ready for the Maha Shivratri festival on February 26, 2025. "We have taken action against 140 social media handles that shared wrong content. Today, more than one crore people have taken a holy dip," he told reporters.
He also said that special steps have been taken to manage traffic so that people do not face trouble. "We will make sure that there is no traffic jam in the Mahakumbh area. Even if the crowd is huge, we are ready to handle it properly," he added.
On Sunday, a large number of devotees bathed in the Triveni Sangam as part of Mahakumbh. The Uttar Pradesh government said that nearly 87.73 lakh (8.77 million) people took a holy dip that day. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared that since the start of Mahakumbh, 62 crore (620 million) people have attended the holy event.
For the Maha Shivratri festival, extra security has been placed at Ayodhya Dham Railway Station to manage the heavy rush of people. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yashwant Singh said that devotees will be allowed to go to the platform only when their train arrives. "We have increased security for the Maha Shivratri bath. More than 350 police personnel have been deployed. Barricades have been set up, and a holding area has been made for passengers," he explained.
He also said that regular announcements are being made to inform people about train timings. "We are making sure that platforms do not become overcrowded. Everything is ready for the safety and comfort of the devotees," he added.
People are still arriving in large numbers at Prayagraj’s Mahakumbh to take a holy dip. The last big bath, called "Shahi Snan," will happen on Maha Shivratri, February 26, 2025. With strong security, smooth traffic plans, and lakhs of people still coming, Mahakumbh 2025 remains a grand spiritual event in India.
