The India-Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy, played in Dubai on Sunday, was a big hit. It broke all records for online watching. A huge 60.2 crore people watched the game live on JioHotstar, the new streaming app made after JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar joined together.
The most exciting moment was when Virat Kohli hit the winning runs and also scored his 51st century. At that time, 60.2 crore people were watching at the same time, making it the highest-ever online viewership for cricket.
The game was thrilling from the start. When Indian bowler Mohammed Shami bowled the first over, 6.8 crore people were already watching. The numbers kept rising as the match went on.
By the last over of Pakistan’s innings, 32.1 crore people were watching. During the break before India's batting, the number reached 32.2 crore. As India started chasing 241 runs, the viewers increased to 33.8 crore. It stayed around 36.2 crore for some time before shooting up again when India got close to winning.
The earlier record for the most people watching online was 3.5 crore when India played Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. In the Asia Cup, the India-Pakistan match had 2.8 crore online viewers.
This match was also shown on JioStar, a new TV network created after Viacom18 and Star India came together. The number of people who watched on TV will be shared by BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) next week.
