Virat Kohli happy with India's week-long break after 2 big wins

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli was honest about his age and fitness after India won two back-to-back matches in the Champions Trophy. Kohli said that playing so many matches is not easy for him now, and he is happy to get a break before the next game. India will now rest for a week before facing New Zealand on March 2.

"At 36, this break is very good for me. I don’t know about the younger players, but I really need this time to rest. It takes a lot of energy to give my best on the field. I am just happy that we have some days off now," Kohli said after winning the Player of the Match award.

On Sunday, February 23, Kohli scored his 51st century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 82nd in all formats of cricket. His brilliant innings helped India defeat Pakistan easily in Dubai. With this win, India now has four points in Group A and is leading the table. Their next match is against New Zealand, who also started strong by beating Pakistan.

Even though India did not have to chase a big target, Kohli said it was important to bat carefully. Pakistan’s spinner Abrar Ahmed was making it difficult to score runs in the middle overs. However, India got off to a great start by scoring 64 runs in the powerplay. This gave Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer the freedom to bat comfortably later in the innings.

"It felt really good to play like this in such an important match. We wanted to make sure we reach the semi-finals, so I was happy to help the team. When Rohit got out early, we had to build a partnership and play smartly according to the conditions," Kohli explained.

Kohli also said that his job was to handle the middle overs and play safe against spinners while attacking the fast bowlers. He kept taking singles and waited for the right time to hit big shots. Once Shreyas Iyer started attacking, Kohli also played some aggressive shots and finished the game easily.

"My role was clear – control the middle overs, go after the fast bowlers, and not take risks against spinners. We built a good partnership, and towards the end, Shreyas played aggressively, and I also got some boundaries. I was happy because this is the way I always play cricket," Kohli added.

India won the match with 45 balls left and moved to the top of Group A. Now, they will take a short break before their big match against New Zealand. Meanwhile, New Zealand will play Bangladesh in their next game in Rawalpindi.
