India’s main stock markets, BSE and NSE, will be closed on Wednesday, February 26, for Mahashivratri. This will be the first stock market holiday of 2025. There are a total of 14 stock market holidays planned for the year.
Since the stock markets will be closed, there will be no trading in stocks, commodities, currency, or any other market segments. Trading will start again on Thursday, February 27.
The Indian stock market works from Monday to Friday. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, along with some public holidays, which are decided at the beginning of the year. For example, the market was open on Saturday, February 1, because of the Union Budget.
On normal trading days, the stock market has a pre-opening session from 9:00 am to 9:15 am. The main trading happens from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. After that, the market has a closing session from 3:40 pm to 4:00 pm.
The months of April and October will have the most stock market holidays, with three days each. March and August will have two holidays, while February, May, November, and December will have one holiday each.
