The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi will present 14 reports by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the Delhi Assembly today. These reports check how the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government worked in the past. The reports were not shared with the public before. They study many areas like state money use, road pollution, health services, liquor sales, and bus services in Delhi.
Some of the important reports include how the government handled money, how much tax was collected, how they controlled air pollution from vehicles, and how they took care of children who needed help. There is also a report on liquor sales and how hospitals and buses were managed. Four reports are about how much money was spent and saved in the years 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The BJP says that the AAP government did not allow these reports to be shared before. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena had told the AAP government to present these reports, but they did not. He even called for a special meeting in December 2023, but the reports were still not shown. In a letter, he reminded the AAP leaders that they had a duty to share these reports with the public.
The new Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, who is from BJP, said that the AAP government wasted public money. She said they must explain where the money went. The Delhi Assembly session started on Monday, with Rekha Gupta, 47 BJP members, and 22 AAP members, including opposition leader Atishi, taking their oaths in the 70-member house.
AAP has denied the charges. Atishi said that the reports were already sent to the Assembly Speaker before the Delhi elections. She said that BJP is trying to mislead people and create a wrong image of AAP. The discussion in the assembly is expected to be intense, as both parties will try to prove their points.
