8 Men Trapped for 48 Hours: Silkyara Team Joins Telangana Tunnel Rescue

Rescue teams are working day and night to save eight workers trapped inside a tunnel near the Srisailam dam in Nagarkurnool, Telangana. The tunnel collapsed on Saturday morning while the workers were fixing a water leak. Since then, they have not been able to contact anyone. Thick mud and water inside the tunnel are making the rescue operation very difficult.

The tunnel is 44 km long and collapsed about 13 km from its entrance. Some workers managed to escape, but these eight got stuck inside. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Jupally Krishna Rao, who are looking after the rescue work, said that the situation is very serious.

Four of the trapped people are laborers, and four are employees of the company that was repairing the tunnel. Officials are worried because there has been no sign of life from them for more than two days.

Many teams are working together to save them. The Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and state rescue teams are all inside the tunnel, trying to remove the debris and reach the workers. A team of Navy commandos has also arrived to help. Six experts from the 2023 Silkyara tunnel rescue in Uttarakhand have also joined. These experts have experience in saving people from collapsed tunnels, which is giving hope to the rescue teams.

However, rescuers are facing many problems. The collapsed tunnel is full of mud and water, making it hard to move. Walking is almost impossible, so they are using rubber tubes and wooden planks to go inside. Minister Krishna Rao said that the situation is not looking good, but they are still trying their best.

Another big problem is that the tunnel is still not safe. There are cracks in the walls, and water is leaking inside. The rescue teams are trying to drain the water while also making sure the tunnel does not collapse further. Some big stones inside the tunnel are moving, making it risky for the rescuers. They are also looking for other ways to reach the trapped workers, but those paths are also dangerous.

Many leaders are keeping an eye on this rescue operation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised full support from the central government. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has spoken to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to ask about the rescue efforts. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has said that he is getting regular updates and has ordered officials to send more oxygen inside the tunnel and remove the debris faster.

It has now been over 48 hours since the collapse, and time is running out. The rescue teams are working as fast as possible, trying to clear the debris and find a way to reach the trapped workers. The situation is very critical, but officials are not giving up hope. The next few hours will decide the fate of the eight workers still stuck inside the tunnel.
