A woman from Canada, Lorraine Gesell, had an experience that seemed like something out of a fairy tale. One day, she received an unexpected phone call that turned out to be much more than it seemed. The caller informed her that she had inherited a large property from a distant relative she had never met before. The property, worth about ₹4.2 crores, had been left to her by a man named Raymond Barry, who had passed away at the age of 85 in 2021.
When Lorraine first heard this news, she was very suspicious. In the age of cyber scams and online fraud, it was hard to believe that such an unbelievable offer could be real. She thought she was being tricked by scammers. The caller had explained that Raymond Barry, who had lived alone and never married, had passed away without any close relatives to inherit his estate. Since he had no children or spouse, the property had no clear heir, and that’s where Lorraine came into the picture.
The call came from Finders International, a company that specializes in finding heirs to estates when the owners pass away without leaving a will or direct family to inherit their belongings. The company’s job is to trace relatives and inform them if they are entitled to any inheritance.
The agent from Finders International told Lorraine that she was the closest living relative to Raymond. Lorraine’s mother had been born in a town near Liverpool, and she moved to Canada in 1951. Raymond’s mother, Leena Moores, and Lorraine’s grandfather, George Moores, were siblings, making Lorraine a distant cousin to Raymond. After finding this connection, Finders International identified Lorraine as the rightful heir to the property.
At first, Lorraine was very doubtful. She didn’t know anyone named Raymond Barry, and the idea of suddenly inheriting a large property seemed too good to be true. Her son, in particular, was very suspicious. Lorraine said, “It does sound incredible—' someone you never knew has died, and you're entitled to an inheritance.' It sounds like a fairy tale.”
Despite her doubts, Lorraine decided to investigate further. She reached out to Finders International to learn more about her relative and to verify the authenticity of the call. After her research, Lorraine found that the call was legitimate. The company never asked for any money upfront, which made the situation seem more trustworthy. The researchers provided Lorraine with real details about her extended family, which helped her understand that the inheritance was real.
Lorraine was shocked but grateful when she realized that the inheritance was truly hers. It had come from a distant relative she had never known, and it was a huge surprise that suddenly changed her life.
In the end, Lorraine’s careful approach and willingness to check the facts led her to a surprising fortune. This story shows that sometimes, even in a world filled with scams and fraud, there can be genuine surprises waiting for us.
