Woman Delivers Baby on Train at Delhi Station, Railway Cops Assist

A woman from Samastipur, Bihar, gave birth to a baby girl inside a train coach at Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) was quick to help her during the unexpected delivery.

On Thursday, when the incident happened, RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari was on duty. As soon as she got the news, she acted fast, called for an ambulance, and reached the train. She worked together with a police constable and other passengers in the coach to assist the woman during her labor. Thanks to their teamwork, the baby girl was safely delivered. Afterward, the mother and baby were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari explained, "I was on duty when I received the information. I immediately called the ambulance. A woman from Samastipur in Bihar was in labor. With the help of a police constable and other women passengers in the coach, we managed to help her give birth and later arranged for both of them to be taken to the hospital."

RPF Inspector Shailendra Kumar later confirmed that both the mother and baby were doing well after the delivery. "We received a call from a train traveling to Saharsa from Anand Vihar. The woman was in labor. Our lady Sub-Inspector, along with other staff, quickly went to the train. With the help of women passengers, the baby was safely delivered. We then sent them to the hospital in an ambulance. Both mother and child are in good health," he said.

This isn't the first time such an incident has happened in India. In 2024, a woman named Shweta Ratnam gave birth on a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus. The bus conductor, R. Saroja, and other women passengers helped Shweta during her delivery. She had boarded the bus at Aramghar, and as the bus reached Bahadurpura, the labor pains started. Thanks to the quick actions of the conductor and passengers, the baby was safely delivered. The bus managing director, VC Sajjanar, praised the conductor and women passengers for their timely and compassionate help.
