Who Will Be Delhi's Next CM? Meet the Front-runners & BJP's Dark Horse

The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has won the Delhi Assembly elections after 27 years. The party got 48 out of 70 seats, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Now, the BJP is ready to choose the new Chief Minister. This will happen in a meeting with their elected members on Wednesday, February 19. The new Chief Minister will take the oath on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan.

Even though the BJP has won, they have not said who will be the Chief Minister yet. Many important people, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah, will be there at the ceremony.

Some names are being talked about for the Chief Minister's position. One of the leaders is Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma. He became famous when he defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi area. Parvesh Verma was born on November 7, 1977. His father, Sahib Singh Verma, was also the Chief Minister of Delhi. Parvesh joined the BJP in 2013 and won the Mehrauli seat. He also won the West Delhi seat in 2014 and 2019 elections. In 2025, he defeated Kejriwal by 4,089 votes.

Another leader is Vijender Gupta. He was born on August 14, 1963. He has been a part of politics for many years and is a well-known leader in the BJP. He has won the Rohini seat three times and was the president of Delhi BJP. In the 2025 election, he won again, defeating AAP’s Pradeep Mittal by 37,816 votes.

Satish Upadhyay is another name that people are talking about. He has worked in Delhi politics for many years and was the president of the Delhi BJP. In the 2025 election, he won the Malviya Nagar seat by defeating AAP’s Somnath Bharti.

Virendra Sachdeva became the president of Delhi BJP in 2023. He worked hard to help the BJP win the 2025 election. He says the central BJP leaders will decide who will be the Chief Minister.

Harish Khurana, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, also ran in the 2025 election. He contested from Moti Nagar and defeated AAP’s Shivcharan Goel.

Even though the BJP has won, it is still unclear who will become the Chief Minister. People are waiting to see who will lead Delhi.
