India and Bangladesh will play against each other today in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. The last time these two teams played an ODI in Dubai was in 2018, which was the Asia Cup final. The stadium last hosted a 50-over match in March 2024, and big teams do not often play ODIs here.
The 2018 final was a very close match. India’s regular captain, Virat Kohli, was rested, and Rohit Sharma led the team. Bangladesh batted first and started well. Litton Das played a great innings and, along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, scored 120 runs in just 20.5 overs. But after Kedar Jadhav took a wicket, Bangladesh lost their way.
Their middle-order batsmen struggled. Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, and Mahmudullah scored only 13 runs together. From 120/0, Bangladesh collapsed to 151/5. Litton Das still fought and made a brilliant century. But in the 41st over, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him for 121 runs. His wicket ended Bangladesh’s hopes of a big total. Das was stumped by MS Dhoni, and it became a big talking point. Some felt the third umpire should have given the batter the benefit of the doubt because there was no clear proof that his foot was in the air. Bangladesh got all out for 222 runs in the 49th over. Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets for 45 runs.
India also found it hard to bat as the pitch was slow. Wickets kept falling, and no big partnerships were made. Bangladesh bowlers did well and kept the match exciting till the last over. In the end, Kedar Jadhav, who was injured, came to bat and helped India win on the last ball with a leg bye.
Today’s match could also be thrilling, as the pitch will again be dry. Bangladesh still has strong spin bowlers, while India has brought five spinners for this tournament. Fans can expect another close battle between these two teams.
