US C-17 Aircraft with 205 Illegal Indian Migrants to Land in Amritsar Today

A US military aircraft, carrying 205 illegal Indian immigrants, is expected to land at Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon. The flight was initially scheduled to arrive in the morning, but it has been delayed.

The details about the people on board remain unclear, as neither the US nor Indian governments have shared any information. However, reports indicate that a C-17 Globemaster aircraft, which took off from San Antonio in Texas, is bringing back illegal immigrants from Punjab and nearby states.

This move comes after US President Donald Trump took office and US law enforcement began cracking down on illegal immigrants. Many people from Punjab, who had entered the US through illegal routes or by spending large sums of money, are now facing deportation.

In response to the situation, ministers and officials in Punjab have voiced their concerns. Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, expressed his disappointment with the US government's decision. He suggested that these individuals, who had contributed to the US economy, should have been granted permanent residency instead of being deported.

Dhaliwal explained that many Indians entered the US on work permits, but when those permits expired, they became illegal immigrants. He urged Punjabis not to travel abroad through illegal means, advising them to focus on gaining skills and education, which would help them access legal opportunities in other countries. He also encouraged youth to improve their education and language skills before considering moving abroad.

The minister has plans to meet India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar next week to discuss the concerns of Punjabis living in the US.

Meanwhile, Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav assured the public that the state government would assist in receiving the deported individuals and would set up special counters at the airport. Both the Punjab police and other authorities are on high alert to manage the situation efficiently.
