Tiger Attacks Forest Worker in Sundarbans, Rescue Captured on Camera

A forest department worker was seriously injured after being attacked by a tiger in the Sundarbans Tiger Reserve in West Bengal on Monday morning. The dramatic incident, which was caught on camera, occurred when a team of forest officials was trying to guide the big cat back into the Ajmalmari forest after it wandered out of its natural habitat.

According to officials, the team of eight to ten forest workers, many dressed in black t-shirts, was tasked with driving the Royal Bengal Tiger back into the forest. As they approached the animal, the situation quickly became dangerous. The tiger suddenly turned towards the workers, prompting them to scream in fear.

Within moments, the tiger leaped toward one of the workers, pouncing on him and knocking him to the ground. His colleagues immediately sprang into action, using sticks to poke and distract the animal. Fortunately, their efforts paid off as the tiger eventually released the injured man and retreated into the forest.

The injured worker was swiftly taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nisha Goswami confirmed the man had sustained multiple bite injuries but remained in stable and conscious condition.

"He has been taken to the local hospital. If needed, we will move him to a hospital in Kolkata for better care," said Ms. Goswami.

She further assured that no other person had been injured during the incident. "Our team is now armed with tranquilizer guns and equipped with a cage and bait to capture the tiger if necessary," she explained.

To prevent further incidents, nylon nets are being set up around the area, and villagers have been warned to keep their cattle indoors. Despite the frightening encounter, officials emphasized that such incidents, while rare, are a reminder of the challenges faced by those working to protect and conserve wildlife.
