A special plane carrying 112 Indian people who went to the United States in an illegal way landed at Amritsar airport on Sunday. These people were sent back by the US government. After reaching India, they were given food and other needed things before they were sent to their home states. Videos from the airport showed them getting into buses to go back home.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that there were 112 people on the flight. She told reporters that food, baby diapers, and other basic things were given to them. "Immigration work is going on, and it will take some time. We have arranged food, diapers, and milk for them. Everything is planned for their journey home," she said. When asked about the number of women and children on the flight, she said that the details would be shared later.
This plane came just one day after another group of Indian people was sent back from the US. The US has started sending back more people who went there without legal permission. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the people returning will be treated well. He said they will not be left alone and will get food and a place to stay before they go home. "They are our children. No one will go hungry. We have arranged food and stay for them. They will stay here for a few hours, then travel to their home states. The Ministry of External Affairs has booked flights for them," Mann said in a press meeting.
The Indian government has already said that it is ready to take back its people if they are living in other countries in an illegal way. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about this matter when he met US President Donald Trump. He said that India is willing to take back its people who are living in the US without permission. "People who stay in a country illegally have no right to be there. India has always said that if our people are found staying in the US illegally, we will take them back," Modi said. He also spoke about how many people are tricked by human traffickers who promise them a better life abroad. "Most of these people are from simple families and are fooled by big dreams. They are lied to and taken to other countries in wrong ways. The real fight is against human trafficking. India and the US must work together to stop this from happening," he added.
This issue has caused discussions in India. The first plane carrying deported Indians landed on February 5 in Amritsar, and it became a big topic. The next day, on February 6, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke in Parliament. He said that every country must take back its people if they are living in another country in an illegal way. He also said that India is talking to the US government to make sure the deported people are treated well. As more flights bring deported people back, the focus is now on how they will adjust to life in India again and how the government can stop such illegal travel in the future.
