The Supreme Court will hear the case of Ranveer Allahbadia, a popular influencer, on Tuesday. He has asked the court to combine multiple FIRs (First Information Reports) filed against him. These FIRs are about comments he made on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
The issue started when Allahbadia made some inappropriate remarks on the show. Because of this, police filed complaints against him and others, including Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija. FIRs were filed by the police in Assam, Maharashtra, and Jaipur.
Abhinav Chandrachud, the son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, asked for an urgent hearing of the case. The Chief Justice, Sanjiv Khanna, said the case would be heard in two to three days.
Ranveer Allahbadia, who is also known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, has not been in touch with the police. The police in Mumbai and Guwahati have said that they cannot reach him. Allahbadia has not responded to the summons from the police. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has asked him to come and meet them on February 24. Samay Raina has been asked to appear before them on February 18.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also called Allahbadia, Raina, and others for questioning. The NCW is very concerned about the remarks made on the show. They said the comments were offensive to women and should not have been said.
Many of the people called by the NCW, including Allahbadia, said they could not attend because of personal safety issues, travel plans, or other problems. Allahbadia said he had received death threats and asked for a new date for his hearing. The NCW agreed and moved his hearing to March 6.
Jaspreet Singh, who is traveling in Paris, told the NCW he would return to India by March 10, 2025. He said he would cooperate with the investigation. His hearing is now set for March 11. Samay Raina, who is also traveling in the US, said he would be available for the hearing when he returns. His hearing is also set for March 11.
Samay Raina apologized publicly, saying he only wanted to make people laugh. He said he removed all the videos of India’s Got Latent from his channel and promised to work with the authorities. He said that this situation has been difficult for him, and he hopes the matter gets solved soon.
A complaint was filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, saying that the show used rude language and hurtful comments about women to get more views and money.
The controversy started when Allahbadia made remarks about "parents and sex" on the show. These comments caused a lot of anger from people, and the show has since been taken off YouTube.
