Ranveer Allahbadia apologises for crass joke after comedy row

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, known as Beer Biceps, has apologized for making inappropriate jokes on Samay Raina's show, India’s Got Latent. His comments, which many found offensive, led to a lot of backlash. On Monday, Ranveer posted a video on social media, where he admitted to making a mistake and expressed his regret. He said that he realized comedy is not his strong point and promised to be more responsible with his platform in the future.

In the video, Ranveer said, "My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I’m just here to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I want to use my platform, and of course, it’s not." He also made it clear that he would not try to justify or explain his actions. “I’m just here for an apology,” he added.

He explained that his comments were thoughtless and pointed out that the podcast is watched by people of all ages, including families. He said, “I don’t want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect.”

Ranveer further shared that he has learned from this mistake and promised to do better moving forward. He even asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections. At the end of his message, he said, "All I can say is I’m sorry, and I hope you can forgive me as a human being."

The comments made by Ranveer sparked a strong reaction online. Many people have criticized him and even called for a boycott of his content. The controversy has also raised questions about content regulation on platforms like YouTube and OTT shows.

For those who missed it, the incident took place during an episode of India’s Got Latent, where Ranveer was a judge alongside other popular YouTubers like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (also known as The Rebel Kid). During the episode, Ranveer asked a contestant a question that many people found highly offensive. He asked, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life — or would you join in once and stop it forever?"

Because of this, a formal complaint has been filed against Ranveer, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, and the show itself. The complaint accuses them of using abusive and offensive language during the episode.

Ranveer's apology shows that he understands the impact of his words and is committed to using his platform in a more respectful way in the future.
