Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama confirms its much-awaited release date

Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, the classic 1993 Japanese-Indian animated film, has been roped in by Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment and is finally going to hit the Indian cinemas. It was first screened in India at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) way back in 1993 but was never released in theatres.

The film is based on the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. Initially, it was scheduled to be released with new dubs in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu besides its original English version on 18th October 2024 in 4K format. However, its release date has been rescheduled for January 24, 2025, for more cinema house releases in India.

It was a collaboration of Indian mythology and Japanese animation directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki. In the original Hindi version, some of India's biggest actors voiced the characters. Arun Govil, who was so popular as Lord Ram in the Ramayan television series, provided the voice of Ram, Namrata Sawhney for Sita, and the legendary Amrish Puri provided his voice for Raavan. The legendary actor Shatrughan Sinha was the narrator and enhanced the narration with his experience.

It has been adapted by renowned screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, who is known for films like Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and RRR.

Though it did not get a release in cinemas, it was popular in the early 2000s through re-runs on TV and became an animation piece among Indian audiences.

The eagerly-awaited release is in the form of a unique anime style that portrays Indian culture with a Japanese essence and blends two different worlds of storytelling to come up with this cinematic masterpiece. Fans of Ramayana, as well as animation lovers, are looking forward to seeing this iconic tale unfold on the silver screen.
