A claim was made by a US government group saying it stopped giving money that was meant to affect voting in India. A government advisor to Prime Minister Modi called the US aid program the “biggest scam in human history.”
The US group, called DOGE, said it had cancelled funding for projects in different countries. This included $21 million for helping get more people to vote in India, $29 million to improve politics in Bangladesh, and $20 million for strengthening the government in Nepal.
USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is a big US government group that helps with global aid projects. The DOGE group, which is checking how US funds are used, found this problem.
The claim about giving money for "voter turnout" in India worried the ruling BJP party. They thought this was foreign interference in India’s elections. Former Chief Election Commissioner, SY Quraishi, denied that any such deal had taken place. He said there was a training agreement with an international group, but no money was involved.
Sanjeev Sanyal, an advisor to PM Modi, asked who in India received the $21 million. He also asked who got the money for Bangladesh and Nepal. He called USAID the "biggest scam in human history."
The BJP also wanted to know who got the money. BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said foreign powers have been trying to control India’s institutions. He also mentioned businessman George Soros, saying he had influence over efforts to weaken India. Malviya blamed the Congress party for allowing foreign forces to interfere in India’s matters.
