PM Modi’s ‘jhaadu ke tinke’ dig at Kejriwal after 8 AAP MLAs join BJP

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. This came after eight AAP members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the day after resigning from Arvind Kejriwal’s party.

The MLAs had quit AAP on Friday, accusing the party of corruption and saying it had strayed from its original goals. The AAP had also decided not to give election tickets to these MLAs for the upcoming assembly elections.

While addressing a rally in Delhi’s RK Puram, PM Modi commented on AAP’s broomstick symbol. He said that even before the elections, the party was losing members and facing defeat. He remarked, "Aajkal hum dekh rahe hai ki voting se pehle hi jhaadu ke tinke bikhar rahe hai," which means, "Nowadays, we are seeing that even before the voting, the broomstick is scattering everywhere."

Modi said the leaders of AAP were leaving the party because they realized how upset people were with them. He added that the anger of the people of Delhi had shaken the AAP party so much that they were now making false claims almost every hour.

The Prime Minister also drew a comparison to the arrival of Basant Panchami, which marks the start of spring. He said that just like the season changes with the festival, a "new spring of development" was about to begin for Delhi. Modi promised that in the coming days, Delhi would see a new government led by the BJP. He said the AAP party had wasted 11 years and appealed for a chance to serve the people of Delhi.

"I promise to go to any length to remove every difficulty you face. A double-engine government will come to Delhi that will make the lives of every poor and middle-class family prosperous," Modi added.

He also praised the Union Budget for 2025-26, calling it an example of "Modi's guarantee." The Prime Minister explained that he had made promises to strengthen four pillars of development for India: the poor, farmers, youth, and women. According to him, the recent budget was a guarantee to fulfill those promises. He mentioned that over the years, the government had provided free food, free healthcare, and permanent housing for the poor.

The Delhi assembly elections are set to take place on February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8.
