The Parliament's Budget session is set to begin on January 31, 2025, with President Droupadi Murmu's speech. This will mark the start of a session in which the Union Budget 2025 is expected to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1.

The first part of the session will run from January 31 to February 13. The second part of the session is scheduled to start on March 10 and end on April 4, 2025.

According to a bulletin issued by Parliament, after President Murmu's address, the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) will hold a separate meeting to discuss government business.

From February 3 to 5, there will be discussions on the vote of thanks for the President's speech. One member of Parliament will move the motion, and another will second it.

To ensure a smooth session, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the government has called an all-party meeting on January 30 to gain the support of opposition leaders.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took part in the traditional Halwa ceremony on January 23, which marks the final stage of preparing the budget. It is also when the printing of the Union Budget 2025-26 begins. On February 1, she will present the Union Budget at 11 am in Parliament.

This will be Sitharaman's eighth consecutive time presenting the Union Budget, making her the first Finance Minister in India's history to do so.

A recent report from the Bank of Baroda highlighted expectations from the upcoming budget. It suggests that the 2025-26 Union Budget will strike a balance between fiscal discipline and measures to boost economic growth. The report also predicts that the government may meet or even do better than its fiscal deficit target of 4.9% of GDP, thanks to expected savings in government spending.
