Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and his family have faced a huge financial loss, losing Rs 1,850 crore after Infosys shares dropped by nearly 6%. The family holds a 4.02 percent stake in Infosys, which was worth Rs 32,152 crore last Thursday. However, due to the drop in Infosys stock, their stake’s value fell to Rs 30,300 crore.
The Murthy family’s shares are divided as follows: Narayana Murthy owns 0.40 percent, his wife Sudha Murty owns 0.92 percent, their son Rohan Murty holds 1.62 percent, and their daughter Akshata Murty, who is married to former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, owns 1.04 percent. Narayana Murthy’s grandson, Ekagrah Rohan Murty, has a small 0.4 percent stake.
The sharp drop in Infosys shares, which hit a low of Rs 1,812.70 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), also affected other IT companies. This caused their six-month gains to drop to 5.42 percent, even though Infosys had shown strong results for the third quarter.
According to JM Financial, while Infosys’ overall numbers were strong, with a 1.7 percent growth in revenue quarter-over-quarter, some of the growth came from higher pass-through revenues and inorganic contributions. This suggests that the core business of Infosys didn’t grow as much. Additionally, Sharekhan has pointed out that Infosys’ revenue guidance for FY25 was revised upwards, but this could mean a slight revenue decline in the fourth quarter due to seasonality, fewer working days, and a decrease in third-party revenue observed in the third quarter.
Despite the challenges, Infosys remains a major player in the IT industry, though the family’s financial setback has raised concerns.
