A man in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife and four daughters with the help of his son. The incident took place at Sharanjeet Hotel in the Charbagh area of the city on December 31, 2024.
The man, Badar (also known as Badruddin), and his son Arshad were accused of carrying out the murders. While Badar was arrested on Monday after police received a tip-off, Arshad was arrested soon after the crime came to light on January 1.
During his arrest, Badar tried to consume a poisonous substance, but the police stopped him from doing so.
The victims included Badar's wife, Asma, who was 49 years old, and his four daughters—Alshia, 19; Rahmeen, 18; Aksa, 16; and Alia, 9.
A video of Arshad, which appeared on social media, shows him confessing to the murders. In the video, Arshad said he killed his mother and sisters because of harassment from some people in his community back in Agra. He claimed that he and his family had been forced into a situation of hopelessness and despair, leading to the tragic events.
Arshad also mentioned that he wanted the police to hold those responsible from his community for the deaths. In the video, he said, "I have killed my sisters and myself. When the police get this video, I request that they hold the people of the locality responsible for all of this."
Before Badar was arrested, the police had offered a reward of ₹25,000 for any information about him and had released his photographs. A non-bailable arrest warrant was also issued for him.
