Lawyer Representing Ranveer Allahbadia Has Ex-Chief Justice Father

On Friday morning, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna's court began hearing several cases. One of these was a famous case involving YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as ‘BeerBiceps’. This case is about his show ‘India’s Got Latent’. During the court session, the lawyer who was representing Ranveer appeared. His presence caught attention because he had not argued in the Supreme Court for more than eight years. The lawyer was Abhinav Chandrachud, a well-known lawyer from the Bombay High Court and the son of the former Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud.

Abhinav’s family is well-known in India's legal world. His father, DY Chandrachud, was the Chief Justice of India. Even though his father had such a big role, Abhinav had never argued a case in the Supreme Court when his father was the Chief Justice. Abhinav’s father, in his farewell speech last year, shared a story about his two sons, Abhinav and Chintan. He said that he had asked both of them to come to the Supreme Court and argue cases. But both of them said no because they wanted to keep their work separate from their father’s role.

Abhinav’s father also shared how he stayed away from appearing in courts between 1982 and 1985 while he was studying at Harvard University. His father, Justice YV Chandrachud, was India’s longest-serving Chief Justice. Abhinav is also a skilled academic and author. He studied at Stanford Law School, where he earned his Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) and Master of the Science of Law (JSM). He is also a published writer. He wrote books like *Republic of Rhetoric: Free Speech and the Constitution of India* and *Supreme Whispers: Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India 1980-1989*. He has also written articles for big Indian newspapers.

The case against Ranveer Allahbadia started because of comments he made during his show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The Mumbai Police had asked him to come in for questioning on Thursday, but when he didn’t show up, they sent another notice for him to appear on Friday. On Friday, police from both Mumbai and Assam went to Ranveer's home in Versova but found it locked. The comments Ranveer made were seen as rude and hurtful by many people. This caused many complaints to be filed against him. The Assam Police team met with officials from Maharashtra’s Cyber Department to talk about the case. They also want to question other YouTubers who were on the show, like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

The Supreme Court has not yet decided when it will hear the case. Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Ranveer Allahbadia, appeared in front of Chief Justice Khanna virtually. This case is getting a lot of attention and is raising questions about the responsibility of social media influencers and content creators in India.
