Kerala court convicts Greeshma and her uncle in Sharon Raj murder case

A Kerala court recently convicted Greeshma, the main accused in the murder of 23-year-old Sharon Raj, who was from Thiruvananthapuram. Greeshma had been in a relationship with Sharon before the tragic incident.

The Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court Judge, AM Basheer, will announce the detailed sentence on January 18.

The court found Greeshma guilty of several serious charges, including kidnapping with intent to murder, causing harm with poison, murder, and destroying evidence. Her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was also convicted for helping to destroy evidence. However, Greeshma's mother was acquitted because there wasn’t enough evidence against her.

Sharon Raj, who was a final-year student studying Radiology, met Greeshma, a Literature student, while they were at a private college in Kanyakumari. They were in a relationship for over a year, but things started to go wrong. Greeshma’s family had arranged for her to marry another man, and she wanted to end the relationship with Sharon. The prosecution claims that Greeshma, along with her mother and uncle, planned to kill Sharon.

On October 14, 2022, Sharon visited Greeshma at her home in Kanyakumari. It is said that Greeshma gave him a drink of kashayam, an Ayurvedic tonic, which was secretly mixed with poison. After taking the drink, Sharon's health began to worsen. He died on October 25, 2022, due to organ failure.

After Sharon’s death, Greeshma, her mother, and her uncle tried to hide the poison bottle to cover up the crime. The investigation into the case was handled by a special team from the Crime Branch, led by DySP Johnson. The team worked hard to solve the case, which caused a lot of public anger.

Greeshma was arrested on October 31, 2022, and later, her mother and uncle were also arrested. The prosecution charged Greeshma with murder, kidnapping with intent to kill, and destroying evidence.

Greeshma stayed in custody for almost a year until the Kerala High Court granted her bail on September 25, 2023. However, she was given strict conditions for her release and continued to face trial with her co-accused.
