Jharkhand Family Reunites with Lost Member, Now Monk, After 27 Years

A family from Jharkhand has finally reunited with a lost member after 27 years, at the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The man they had been searching for, Gangasagar Yadav, is now a 65-year-old monk known as Baba Rajkumar. He is part of a specific group of sadhus, or religious followers, called Aghoris.
Gangasagar went missing in 1998 after traveling to Patna. For years, his family had no idea where he went. His wife, Dhanwa Devi, was left to raise their two sons, Kamlesh and Vimlesh, by herself. Over the years, they slowly lost hope of ever finding him.

However, hope was rekindled when a relative, who was attending the Kumbh Mela, saw a man who looked like Gangasagar. The relative took a photo of the man and sent it to the family. Dhanwa Devi, along with Kamlesh, Vimlesh, and Murli Yadav (Gangasagar’s younger brother), rushed to the Kumbh Mela to see if it was truly Gangasagar.

When they arrived, they met Baba Rajkumar, but he did not recognize them. He claimed to be a sadhu from Varanasi and refused to accept any connection to his past life as Gangasagar Yadav. He was with a woman Sadhu, his companion, and together, they denied any link to his former family.

Despite Baba Rajkumar’s denials, the family was convinced that this man was their lost relative. They pointed out his long teeth, an injury on his forehead, and a scar on his knee as signs that the man before them was indeed Gangasagar. They reported the situation to the Kumbh Mela police, requesting a DNA test to confirm his identity.

Murli Yadav, Gangasagar's brother, said, “We will wait until the end of the Mela. If needed, we will ask for a DNA test. If the test shows he isn’t Gangasagar, we will apologize to Baba Rajkumar.”

Some members of the family have already gone back home, but others are still at the Kumbh Mela, watching Baba Rajkumar and his companion closely. They are ready to take legal steps once the Mela ends if the DNA test confirms their claims.

The disappearance of Gangasagar had a huge impact on his family. His eldest son, Kamlesh, was just two years old when his father went missing, and his younger son was born later, never knowing his father.
