British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s visit to India isn’t just about packed concerts and breathtaking performances. The globally loved artist is also diving into the country’s deep and diverse musical heritage. Currently on his Mathematics tour, Ed gave fans a delightful surprise by sharing a special video on Instagram.
In the video, Ed is seen learning to play the sitar, a traditional Indian instrument, under the guidance of well-known sitar player Megha Rawoot. Ed's cheerful and curious spirit shines through as he tries his hand at plucking the strings. What’s more impressive is how quickly he picks it up.
Sharing the video, Ed wrote, "Played sitar today for the first time, had a great teacher Megha Rawoot." Fans flooded the comments with love and admiration. Popular singer Harshdeep Kaur also responded to the post, saying, “Wow! Music blurring borders.”
Megha Rawoot, who seemed thrilled about the experience, shared the same video on her Instagram. She captioned it, “Phewwww... It was a fun day and a fun jam! Thanks, Ed Sheeran, for bringing me on board! You are a natural… Thank you Abhishek for making this happen.”
Ed's India tour so far has been nothing short of magical. In Chennai, he performed alongside legendary Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman. The highlight of the evening was an amazing fusion of Ed's popular hit Shape of You and Rahman’s timeless track Urvasi. The electrifying collaboration left the audience in awe. Ed described the experience as an "honor."
The tour kicked off in Pune on January 30, where Ed's captivating performance left his fans mesmerized. Singer-actor Dot, known for her role in The Archies, opened the night with a lively set.
Ed will wrap up his India leg of the tour on February 15 in Delhi-NCR before heading to his next destination. Whether he's charming audiences with his guitar or surprising them by playing the sitar, one thing is clear—Ed Sheeran knows exactly how to strike the right chord with his fans.
