India vigilant as Pakistan reportedly sends ISI agents to Bangladesh

India has expressed serious concern after Pakistan sent senior army officers and spies from its Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency to Bangladesh. This development has put New Delhi on high alert, with officials keeping a close watch on the situation.

On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement regarding the matter. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly media briefing, "We keep an eye on all activities around the country and the region that could impact national security. The government will take appropriate steps when necessary."

These comments followed the conclusion of a three-day visit to Bangladesh by a high-profile ISI delegation, led by Major General Shahid Amir Afsar. This visit came shortly after top Bangladeshi military officials traveled to Pakistan, where they held discussions with Pakistan’s three service chiefs.

The growing proximity between Pakistan and Bangladesh has raised concerns in India, especially after the political turmoil in Bangladesh following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Since then, Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh has been strengthening its ties with Pakistan, a move that has raised alarm bells in New Delhi.

Adding to India's worries is Bangladesh's decision to grant visas to Pakistani citizens without requiring security clearance. Security experts have warned that this could lead to increased ISI and Jamaat-e-Islami activities in the region, potentially threatening India’s security.

“There have been reports suggesting eased travel restrictions for Pakistani ISI and Jamaat operatives to Dhaka,” said a security analyst.

Despite these challenges, India has reiterated its commitment to fostering positive relations with Bangladesh. Jaiswal emphasized India's support for a peaceful and inclusive Bangladesh. “We support a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. Our goal is to strengthen ties for the mutual prosperity of the people in both nations,” he said.

When asked about Bangladesh’s objections to India’s ongoing border fencing project, Jaiswal clarified that the fencing is part of an existing bilateral agreement between the two countries. He explained that the project aims to prevent illegal movements of people and cattle across the border, thereby ensuring better security.

India’s vigilance and commitment to maintaining regional stability reflect its firm stance on national security. However, the growing closeness between Bangladesh and Pakistan is a matter of ongoing concern, with India carefully monitoring the developments.
