India Rejects Erdogan's Comments on Kashmir as Unacceptable

India has rejected the comments made by Turkish President Erdogan about Kashmir. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that these comments were "unacceptable." MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that India had raised a strong complaint with the Turkish ambassador. He added that comments questioning India's control over Kashmir are not okay.

Jaiswal said Jammu and Kashmir are always part of India and will never change. He also mentioned that it would have been better if Erdogan had spoken about the danger of terrorism coming from Pakistan, which harms the people of Jammu and Kashmir. India has made it clear many times that Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, are part of India.

Erdogan made these comments during his visit to Pakistan. He said the Kashmir issue should be solved through talks between India and Pakistan, considering the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He also said that the United Nations' (UN) rules should be followed for resolving the issue, and that Turkey supports the people of Kashmir.

India has always said that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are a part of India. This was made clear when India changed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 and turned it into two Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. After that, the relationship between India and Pakistan became more tense.

Erdogan also talked about strengthening Turkey's ties with Pakistan. He said both countries agreed to aim for a USD 5 billion trade target. At the end of their meeting, the two leaders signed an agreement to improve their relationship and make it stronger.
