India, Pakistan to hold flag meeting near LoC today, say sources

India and Pakistan will hold a flag meeting near the Line of Control (LoC) today amid rising tensions due to recent cross-border firing and an IED blast. Sources said the meeting is expected to address security concerns following a surge in activities along the border. More details about the meeting are awaited.

Tensions between the two nations have increased after an IED attack in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu on February 11, which led to the death of two Indian Army personnel, including a captain. The attack was suspected to be carried out by terrorists. In separate incidents, two more army personnel were injured in cross-border firing in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, while another soldier was wounded in a landmine explosion last week.

Following these incidents, the Indian Army launched a strong retaliation, which reportedly resulted in heavy casualties on the Pakistani side.

Since India and Pakistan agreed to renew their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, ceasefire violations have been relatively rare. However, the recent increase in border activities has raised concerns, leading to the decision for a flag meeting to discuss the situation.
