A tragic incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi, where a 30-year-old blind woman, named Sushma, lost her life due to severe burn injuries. Her husband, Raju Gautam, is accused of pushing her into a bonfire after a heated argument about dowry. This horrifying incident happened on December 13.
Sushma and Raju got married under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme on January 30 of the previous year. Raju, aged 35, had been married twice before and had two daughters from his previous marriages. According to Sushma's family, Raju had been demanding cash and a motorcycle as dowry, which led to the conflict.
After the argument, Raju allegedly asked his daughters to light a bonfire and then pushed Sushma into it. She suffered serious burns, but Raju did not take her to the hospital for treatment. Instead, he abandoned her at her sister’s house in Janaki Nagar, Prayagraj.
Sushma’s family rushed her to several hospitals, but despite their efforts, she died from her injuries on Saturday. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is currently underway.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Raju under various sections, including those related to dowry death and cruelty to a woman by her husband. Raju is currently on the run, and the police are working hard to arrest him.
