Gujarat Giants Beat UP Warriorz for First WPL Win Chasing

Gujarat Giants won their first match while chasing a target in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). They played against UP Warriorz at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara and chased down a target of 144 runs to win.

The team’s captain, Ashleigh Gardner, led them to victory with a strong performance. She took two wickets and scored 52 runs off 32 balls. Her batting helped the Giants recover after losing two early wickets. She made a partnership of 55 runs with Laura Wolvaardt for the third wicket. Ashleigh was out in the 12th over when she hit a ball to short fine leg.

After that, Harleen Deol and Deandra Dottin took control of the game. Harleen made 34 runs from 30 balls, while Deandra scored 33 runs off 18 balls. Both stayed not out and helped the Giants win the game in 18 overs with six wickets remaining.

Earlier, UP Warriorz had scored 143 runs. Deepti Sharma was their top scorer with 39 runs from 27 balls. Priya Mishra was the best bowler for the Gujarat Giants, taking three wickets for 25 runs in four overs. She got rid of Deepti Sharma, Tahlia McGrath, and Grace Harris. Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin each took two wickets, while Kashvee Gautam took one.

Gujarat Giants chased the target easily and won their first match while chasing in the WPL. They are now in second place in the points table, behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
