Several FIITJEE coaching centers in North India have closed down abruptly over the past week, leaving hundreds of students and parents frustrated. The closures happened because many teachers at these centers decided to leave due to unpaid salaries, causing a major disruption for students who are preparing for board exams and entrance exams like JEE.
The FIITJEE centers that have shut include branches in Noida, Ghaziabad, Bhopal, Varanasi, Delhi, Meerut, and Patna. The center in Meerut was the most recent to close. Initially, the administration tried to bring in teachers from the Noida center, but this arrangement lasted only a few days before the center had to shut down.
Parents are extremely upset about the situation. Many of them have filed police complaints because they didn’t receive any prior notice about the closure and are still waiting for their refunds. Some parents even took to social media, sharing pictures and videos of protests outside the now-closed centers.
One parent, who has already paid Rs 6 lakh for their child's coaching, shared their frustration, saying they were told the centers wouldn’t close and classes would continue. They were reassured that even though some teachers left, the institute would still manage to continue classes. However, the reality turned out to be different.
Another parent, who paid Rs 4 lakh recently, mentioned that an outgoing teacher revealed most of the faculty members had quit because they hadn’t been paid their salaries for months.
FIITJEE, a well-known coaching institute that helps students prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams, is currently facing a major crisis. The institute has been under scrutiny due to financial troubles and issues related to administrative and safety violations. This has worsened just after the recent JEE Mains exam, a key test for students aiming for admission into IITs and other engineering colleges.
FIITJEE was founded in 1992 by DK Goel, an IIT Delhi graduate, and has grown to have 72 centers across 41 cities, with more than 300 employees.
