Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad cries after Dalit woman raped, killed

In Uttar Pradesh, a tragic incident involving the death of a 22-year-old Dalit woman has shocked many. Her body was found in a remote canal near her village in Ayodhya, and her family has accused someone of killing her. The woman had been missing, and the police are now looking into the case after her family filed a missing person's report.

This heartbreaking event took place just days before the by-polls in the state. During a press conference on Sunday, Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down in tears while speaking about the incident. He promised that if justice was not served to the woman’s family, he would resign from the Lok Sabha. He also expressed his pain, saying, “We are failing to protect our daughters. How will history judge us?” His emotions were visible as he cried, asking, “Maryada Purushottam Ram, Mother Sita, where are you?” He vowed to raise the issue in the Lok Sabha before Prime Minister Modi, saying he would quit his position if justice wasn’t given.

Though some of his colleagues tried to comfort him, Prasad stood firm in his promise. On social media, however, a few people accused him of showing “crocodile tears,” implying that his emotional reaction was not genuine.

The incident occurred just before the by-poll election in Milkipur, Ayodhya, where Prasad had vacated his seat after being elected to the Lok Sabha. This issue is likely to be a key topic during the election campaign, with both Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav leading the campaigns of the BJP and SP parties, respectively. The by-poll for Milkipur will be held on February 5, and the votes will be counted on February 8.

In the larger context, the BJP faced a setback in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The INDIA alliance, led by the Samajwadi Party (SP), won 43 seats, while the NDA alliance, including the BJP, managed to secure only 36 seats out of 80.

The police are still investigating the rape and murder of the Dalit woman, who had been missing for some time. Her body was discovered in a canal, and her family continues to seek justice, urging authorities to bring those responsible to account.
