Experts Link Organophosphorus Poisoning to Deaths in J&K

A mysterious illness has been spreading in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, claiming the lives of at least 17 people. Health experts believe that an organophosphorus toxin is causing the disease. This toxin is known to be harmful to the brain and nervous system.

The situation has become more concerning as the illness spread quickly, and authorities were unsure of its cause. At first, they ruled out viruses, bacteria, and any contagious diseases, but the exact cause remained unclear, making the illness even more of a mystery. However, after several tests, experts were able to confirm that organophosphorus was behind the deaths.

Doctors treating the affected people used atropine, an antidote for organophosphorus poisoning, and it has been shown to work effectively. “Once we knew the exact nature of the toxin, we gave atropine to the patients, and it has been helping them recover,” a senior health official explained.

The authorities are now investigating whether the toxin’s presence in the food or water was an accident or something done intentionally. To help with the investigation, the Jammu and Kashmir police have set up a special team called the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

In the village of Badhaal, where the illness first appeared, authorities have quarantined more than 200 people and declared the area a containment zone. Health officials have also discovered insecticides in a spring that villagers used for drinking water. The spring has been sealed off for further investigation, and food items used by the villagers are also being tested.

Doctors have pointed out that all the victims shared one common factor: the toxin affected their brain and nervous system. The health department and police are working together to figure out how the toxin got into the community, and whether it was due to carelessness or something more serious.

This situation is still under investigation, and the authorities are taking steps to protect the villagers and prevent further deaths.
