Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump had an important meeting in Washington, which was filled with friendly gestures and positive discussions. Officials shared that President Trump warmly welcomed PM Modi, calling him "my friend" and expressing his happiness about the visit.
During the talks, President Trump praised Prime Minister Modi for his strong leadership and the positive changes he has brought to India. He said, "Everybody talks about him. He's doing a fantastic job. He's a great leader." The bond between the two leaders was evident when Mr. Trump greeted PM Modi with a warm hug and said, "We missed you a lot."
The discussions covered various important topics, including the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is wanted in India for his involvement in the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai. President Trump announced that the US would hand over Rana to India, showing his commitment to fighting terrorism together with India. "We are handing over a violent man to India," Mr. Trump stated, emphasizing the shared goal of combating radical Islamic terrorism.
Trade relations between the two countries were also discussed. Although President Trump is known for his tough stance on tariffs, he showed a more understanding side during this meeting. He acknowledged that India alone is not responsible for the trade practices that affect US businesses. This softer approach was seen as a positive step toward resolving trade differences.
When asked about PM Modi, Mr. Trump described him as a tough and skilled negotiator. "He is a much tougher negotiator than me, and he is a much better negotiator than me. There is not even a contest," Mr. Trump admitted with a smile.
The meeting ended on a warm note, with President Trump presenting PM Modi with a special book titled 'Our Journey Together'. In the book, he wrote a personal message for the Indian leader: "Mr Prime Minister, You Are Great." This gesture reflected the respect and admiration Mr. Trump has for PM Modi.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the strong friendship and partnership between India and the United States, with both leaders expressing hope for more collaboration in the future.
