Bollywood director Anurag Basu has finally addressed rumors surrounding Triptii Dimri’s involvement in his upcoming film, Aashiqui 3. Reports had suggested that the young actress might have lost the lead role due to her bold choices in recent films like Animal and Bad Newz.
According to media reports, the makers of Aashiqui 3 felt that Triptii’s on-screen image in her recent projects didn’t align with the “innocent and pure” character required for the romantic franchise. A source had reportedly stated, “The lead heroine of Aashiqui 3 needs to have a sense of innocence that shines through. The team felt that Triptii’s recent roles have given her a more exposed image, making her unsuitable for this role.”
Adding to the speculation, there were also rumors that the filmmakers were considering other young talents like Sharvari Wagh and Imanvi Esmail to take on the lead roles.
However, Anurag Basu has now set the record straight, confirming that Triptii Dimri is still very much a part of the project. “That’s not true,” Basu clarified when asked about the reports. He further added, “Triptii knows this too.”
The buzz around Aashiqui 3, starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead, first began in 2022. The earlier films in the Aashiqui franchise were co-produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt. Initially, the third installment was also set to follow this pattern. However, in March last year, Bhushan Kumar announced that he would be the solo producer of the film, and the title would be changed to Tu Aashiqui Hai.
Interestingly, reports from late 2023 had suggested that Kartik Aaryan was keen on keeping the film as part of the Aashiqui franchise. He reportedly urged the team to revert the title back to Aashiqui 3.
With Anurag Basu’s confirmation, fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Triptii Dimri remains the female lead for the much-awaited romantic drama.
