In a shocking incident in Nagpur, Maharashtra, a couple tragically took their own lives after celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary. The couple, Jeril Damson Oscar Moncriff, 57, and his wife, Anne, 46, were found dead in their home in Martin Nagar early on Tuesday morning, dressed in their wedding clothes.
The couple had partied late into the night, enjoying time with their friends and relatives. According to reports, after the celebration, they ended their lives. Jeril was found hanging in the kitchen, while Anne was discovered lying lifeless in her bridal dress on a bed in the drawing room.
The police believe that Jeril allowed his wife to take her life first. Afterward, he removed her body from the rope, covered her with cloth, and placed flowers on her before taking his own life by hanging himself with a scarf from the ceiling.
The couple did not have children, and before their deaths, they shared a farewell message on social media. They also left behind two suicide notes and an informal will. In the video message, Anne asked her family to take care of their relatives' children and wished them the best.
The suicide notes did not blame anyone for their actions. Instead, they requested that their families handle the distribution of their property smoothly.
According to the couple’s last wishes, they were buried together, hand in hand, in a single coffin at the Jaripatka Catholic cemetery on Tuesday evening. Vijay Alick Michael, a third-generation undertaker, said that he had never made a joint coffin for a couple before. The couple's family shared that it was their wish to be buried together in the same attire they wore on their wedding day, 26 years ago.
Jeril had worked as a chef in several top hotels but had to quit during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anne, on the other hand, was a housewife.
