Congress appoints new leaders; Bhupesh Baghel named Punjab in-charge

The Congress party made big changes in its leadership on Friday. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge announced new leaders for many states. This step was taken to make the party stronger before the coming elections.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been given the charge of Punjab as the AICC general secretary. Rajya Sabha member Rajani Patil will now handle Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. Many other leaders have also been given new roles.

The Congress party shared a list of new leaders on social media, saying:
"Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed these leaders as AICC General Secretaries/In-charges for different states, with immediate effect."

As per the official statement, BK Hariprasad will take care of Haryana, while Krishna Allavaru will handle Bihar. Rajani Patil has been given Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, and Harish Chaudhary will manage Madhya Pradesh.

The Bihar elections will be held next year, and the party has chosen Krishna Allavaru, who is close to Rahul Gandhi, to lead there. He replaces Mohan Prakash, a senior party leader.

Other new leaders include Ajay Kumar Lallu for Odisha, K Raju for Jharkhand, Meenakshi Natarajan for Telangana, and Girish Chodankar for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka will look after Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, and Nagaland.

Some senior leaders have been removed from their roles. Dipak Babaria, Mohan Prakash, Bharatsinh Solanki, Rajeev Shukla, Ajoy Kumar, and Devender Yadav are no longer in charge.

AICC general secretary K C Venugopal thanked them and said:
"The party values the hard work of these leaders and their contributions."

Some leaders will continue in their current roles, while the new appointments have started immediately.
