Coldplay sets India's largest concert record with 1.34 lakh fans

British band Coldplay has not only given unforgettable performances across India, but they’ve also made history with their record-breaking concert. The band’s final show in India, held in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, saw an incredible 1.34 lakh fans in attendance, making it the largest ticketed concert ever in India. This number is significantly higher than the previous record holders, Diljit Dosanjh and Justin Bieber, whose concerts attracted around 50,000 people each.

Coldplay, led by the talented Chris Martin, performed five shows in India as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. They started with three performances in Mumbai, followed by two back-to-back shows in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The final concert in Ahmedabad was a milestone, with 1.34 lakh fans filling the stadium. This is the first time a ticketed concert in India has hosted such a massive crowd. The nearest competition for this record was a concert by Yo Yo Honey Singh in Haldia in 2020, where he claimed to have had a crowd of 2 lakh people. However, this number was never independently verified.

Coldplay’s Ahmedabad concert also holds the title of their largest concert ever, surpassing the 83,000 fans they had in Sydney in November 2024. The band’s choice of venue played a key role in attracting such a large crowd. The Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the largest stadium in India, can hold over a lakh spectators in the stands alone. For this concert, fans were allowed to gather on the field as well, further increasing the capacity to nearly 1.4 lakh.

In comparison, Diljit Dosanjh and Justin Bieber performed at much smaller venues. Justin Bieber's 2017 concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai had an attendance of around 50,000 people. Diljit Dosanjh's concert in December 2024 at the Sector 34 Ground in Chandigarh had a similar crowd size, with reports claiming about 50,000 attendees.

Coldplay’s concert in Ahmedabad was part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, which was streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar for Indian fans. The Mumbai concerts also received great attention, with Bollywood celebrities like Shreya Ghoshal, Suhana Khan, Navya Nanda, Kajal Aggarwal, and cricketer Jasprit Bumrah attending the shows.

In the end, Coldplay's India tour has not just thrilled their fans but also set a new benchmark in the country’s live music scene, showing just how big their fan base is in India.
