In a tragic incident on Sunday, a boat carrying 15 people capsized in the Ganga River near Golaghat in the Amdabad area of Bihar's Katihar district. According to officials, three people, including a three-year-old child, lost their lives, while five others remain missing.
So far, seven individuals have been rescued from the river. Some of them managed to swim to the riverbank, saving themselves from the strong currents. Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to find the five missing passengers.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his grief over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He announced financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh for the next of kin of each person who lost their life in the accident.
District Magistrate Manesh Kumar Meena stated that an investigation has been launched to uncover the cause of the incident. "The rescue operation is still in progress to locate the missing persons," he added.
