Ayodhya Ram Temple's Head Priest Passes Away at 85

Ayodhya, India—Mahant Satyendra Das, 85, the chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, passed away on Wednesday at a hospital.
According to sources, Mahant Satyendra Das had been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) earlier this month after suffering a brain stroke. Doctors had been treating him in the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) in the neurology ward since February 3. Despite receiving intensive care, he could not recover and took his last breath on Wednesday.

The hospital confirmed his passing, saying, "Satendra Das ji, the chief priest of Ram Mandir Ayodhya, breathed his last today. He had been in critical condition after suffering a stroke and was admitted to the neurology ward’s HDU on February 3."

Mahant Satyendra Das had been serving as the head priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple since he was just 20 years old. His long years of devotion saw him witness several historic moments, including the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. Throughout his life, he remained deeply involved in the religious and spiritual activities of the temple, guiding devotees and performing rituals with dedication.

His passing marks the end of an era for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, as he had been a key figure in its religious affairs for decades. Many devotees and temple officials expressed their grief, remembering him as a devoted priest who dedicated his entire life to the service of Lord Ram.
